Historic Overview

In response to the needs of Laramie County senior citizens, the Cheyenne Housing Authority (CHA) in 1972 launched a new program – Laramie County Senior Services (LCSS). Over the last 50 years the CHA and its Board of Commissioners has supported the growth and success of LCSS while providing meals, senior exercise and recreational activities, family caregiver and other services to the fastest growing portion of Laramie County’s population.

Since 1972, LCSS has operated in the Senior Activity Center near the library in downtown Cheyenne. While the population of Laramie County has nearly doubled in the last 50 years, LCSS’s service capacity has not been able to meet the growing demand. Downtown Cheyenne’s expansion around the Senior Activity Center has prevented building expansion, has reduced parking and access to services, and has limited the number of seniors served.

New Senior Activity Center

In November 2021, with the support of the Laramie County Commissioners, 6th Penny funding for a new Laramie County Senior Activity Center was approved by the voters; the new Center will be constructed in Cheyenne on CHA-owned vacant land in the 4200 block of east Pershing Boulevard.

Planning for Long Term Success

To most effectively generate the additional resources required to meet the growing needs of Laramie County seniors, LCSS is now evolving from a CHA program into a 501c3 nonprofit organization with operations based in the new Senior Activity Center. The purpose of Laramie County Senior Services, Inc. (LCSS, Inc.) is to offer a range of services that empower participants to feel dignity and pride in acting for themselves in a positive atmosphere of acceptance and enrichment, and to enhance the quality of life of older citizens of Laramie County, Wyoming, by operating a multipurpose resource center.

To accomplish its purpose, LCSS, Inc. is building a Board of Directors consisting of compassionate, business-minded community leaders. If you are committed to the evolution and long-term success of LCSS, Inc. and wish to be considered for Board Membership, we invite you to complete and submit the attached application.
